War Journal 2012 – Day 23: Sieges, A Casuality, And W0rld W4r W3b

Or – who the hell invited everyone else?

Sorry for the delay guys.  Lots of action on lots of fronts.  Unfortunately, not all of it good in the least.

Work – two people quit on me last week.  One was the one who went looney tunes a few months back.  She never came back from her leave and just decided to not both with work anymore.  Not much loss there.  The second however was drawn into an argument and her tongue slipped.  However, she refused to apologize for the slip up (and valid if you ask me) s0 while upper management was preparing to throw the book at her, she said “fuck you guys, I’m going home”.  Pretty much.

Now granted she was the weakest of the bunch – but even the weakest is sometimes better than the greenest.  Fuck.

Play – the 22 year old (nka Double Deuce) tried to play me.  No go.  I threw a hissy fit to make sure I got the point across that I was not happy (she was kept delaying our ‘date’ as she tried to wrangle more money from me).  She’s on the defensive now.

The Hobbit (oh yeah, I call her that cause she’s really short and kinda squat – a freak in bed and can cook) is still cruising along and while she’s attempting to nest at Chaoz Central making sure she understand ‘we just lonely together’.  She obviously doesn’t like it but she has zero options at this point.

The Inker is making another run and throwing down another block.  Somehow she thinks that she’s the only game in town still.  Really?  Fuck to the no.

The Vagabond – no update.

The Horndog – new one.  Actually not so new.  I’ve known her for a while at the old club.  She likes two things: alcohol and sex (not necessarily in that order).  I went by there and got her some drinks and some cash (very little, relatively speaking) and she ending up riding Mr. Winky three times in a VIP lounge (oh yeah, the manager at the old club knows I’m cash sales so he turns off the cameras now for me – booyeah!)

Asshole level at 75% (and climbing).

Other - um, yeah.  I was all set to actually post something the other day when this happened and then THIS happened.  Now for the record I never used Megaupload (and I certainly don’t upload ANYTHING).  However it was weird to have a 4th row seat to the latter (I was on a forum that was tracking the attack at the time).   It was also a trip to see all that effort and energy so centered, so sure – and so wasted.

There is definitely a new W0rld War W3b going on – which if anything was sort of inevitable.  However this didn’t start with the shutdown or the retaliation.  Not even about ‘sharing/pirating’.  Nope bigger.  MUCH MUCH bigger.

It comes down to power, money, and The Net.

In a sense the Arab Spring was the start.  The use of social Internet media (Facebook, Twitter, etc) made governments (and not just the tyrants in the Middle East) realize that “Oh shit!  If it can happen there….”  And throw in the Occupy movement in the US (which actually became a larger thing globally than it did here) and the ever wobbly global economy.  The Powers realized that the “breads and circuses” only work so well.  Plus that shit costs money (never mind the Powers were the ones who fucked it all up in the first place).

SO…. they went after the most obvious villain – the consumer.  “Cause hey, we just made Consumer WANT those things – we never said anything about them actually getting it.  We never asked the Consumer to go into debt.  We simply sent all those credit offers in the mail to help them.”  You get the idea.

So with Power saying “The Internet can be used against us!” and businesses saying “The Internet is being used against us!” – they looked at each other and got that stupid little light bulb above their heads.

And here we are today in WWW.  So apparently, not only am I at War with 2012, The Owners of the Net are ‘at war’ with the Users.

Sounds like a combination of the Matrix and Tron.  YUCK.  Still, its the biggest game in town now.   Fasten you seatbelts, kids – its gonna be a bumpy ride.
