Something Different: Super Dave Osbourne vs. The CN TowerPosted by: Chaoz in Something DifferentBack in the prehistoric days (198X - when cable was still in its infancy); there was this show in the US on Showtime called “Bizarre”. It was hosted by John Byner and was kinda like SNL on acid - but not particularly good. It DID have however the occasional topless woman frolicking about (which in pre-Internet days, was as good as it got). This isn’t one of those skits. However, another attraction (of the sort) was one Super Dave Osbourne played by Bob Einstein (a comedy writer and friend of Byner). These skits were insane. If Evel Knievel and Wiley E. Coyote had an illegitimate love-child, it would be Super Dave. This is one of the earlier skits as its more rooted in reality (in later ones, he’d be in a giant yoyo or giant football - really!) as he prepares to jump from the CN Tower (I think the tallest in Canada at the time). Enjoy peeples! So it all comes to this - 56 seconds. Not much. But then again… This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends This is the way the world ends Not with a bang but a whimper. - T.S. Eliot, The Hollow Men (1925)
So … is that it? Or was it one of the various versions thrown out during the movie (there’s like six). Well the truth is that there is no The Meaning Of Life (capitals). ‘the meaning of life’ though? Easy, there’s 6 billion plus ‘meanings’ (est. 6,812,614,863 as of this moment). And those are just human beings.
It’s the ultimate “pick a card, any card”.
Oh and the population increased by over 500 in the span it took to read the last 3 sentences (that’s births - deaths).
Deep huh?
Well lets end this on a silly note. The movie actually ends with the credits which are played to a replay of “The Galaxy Song”. No sense putting that up again - SO - I give a young lady who sings the song quite well … BUT, she made sure the camera was on her guitar strumming … … and her chest. A perfectly absurd way to end an absurd movie, no?
Well ‘Death’ starts with a guy who makes sexist remarks is put to death but he chooses his own way to die so he chooses to be chased off a cliff by topless women wearing crash helmets.
Sadly I can’t find a clip (of course). Moving on… Okay this overlaps the previous clip but the sound sucks. Note - the entry hall to Heaven overlaps with Part IV (the couple leaving the desk is the same one from Part IV - which I STILL can’t find a clip of Here’s a better version of the “Christmas in Heaven” song.

SD: ‘THE MEANING OF LIFE’ (Parts IV, V, & The Intro, Again?)Posted by: Chaoz in Something Differentbloody ‘ell! I can’t find any videos of “Part IV: Middle Age”. *sigh* Figures. Well here’s a link to the script of Part IV. Which is a shame since it segues directly into… Part V: Live Organ Transplants … … I’m suddenly reminded about my comment about the Total Perspective Device. Serendipity? And here’s where the film turns into a brief skirmish with the prologue… Bother… the ending cuts off. Well this portion ends with the Crimson Assurance attempting to take over the building … and the film. So they just end it all by dropping a SKYSCRAPER onto Crimson Assurance and apologizing for the short subject trying to take over the film.

SD: ‘THE MEANING OF LIFE’ (Prologue - The Crimson Permanent Assurance)Posted by: Chaoz in Something DifferentWell … I’m feeling MUCH better now. No details (they’re boring and infuriating). Suffice that I believe I have crossed a “generational gap” and didn’t even realize it. plus the drug withdrawal didn’t help.. Anyhoo, I’m back to “Noɹɯal” (not ‘normal’ - I’ve never been ‘normal’ … actually has anyone ever been “normal”??) So lets handle something small. How about the ‘meaning of life’? No no. I’m not going to answer that question (besides the answer is “The meaning of life is the meaning you give it” - quite boring actually). Nope, lets let the boys from Python take a nab at it eh? And the climatic finish!

Something Different: Christopher Walken & The CensusPosted by: Chaoz in Something DifferentWell since I’m on a birthday kick, lets celebrate Christopher Walken’s birthday as well. He turns 67. While he’s done a lot of great dramatic turns; uh - this is the comedy segment. I could’ve gone with the “Cowbell” skit but that’s actually overdone I think. So lets go with something a bit obscure and coincidentally timely. Christopher Walken vs. the Census worker (no, not that way)…
